Give Okinawa Back to Okinawa

One day (this year), I was watching a TV program on issues on U.S. bases in Okinawa, and a commentator said something like this: "Well, having said that, the economy of Okinawa relies on bases (so it won't be easy to get rid of them). It would be true that Okinawan economy relies on the bases to some extent. However, it means a totally different thing when residents in Okinawa say that and when people living in other parts of Japan (e.g. Tokyo) say that, because people in Okinawa have no choice.

A Liver Runs Though It

OMG! Yum!! My parents used to feed me raw cow livers when I was three or four, and I almost adore livers even today. You should think twice what to give your kids especially when they are little because they may end up in eating it for the rest of their lives.

Finally, "Shiisa" (lion-shaped ornament of Okinawa) have (they usually come in a pair) come to the house where I live. They make the house look like a typical Okinawan residence.

Rainy season is over now in Okinawa, but what really bothers me lately is what to do with my laundry. Last week, I put out all my laundry outside before I leave home for work, but during the day it rained all of sudden, and all my clothes were totally soaked. Then I washed them again and put them out to dry, but then it rained again, so I had to wash them again... Finally I decided to dry my clothes in side the house with AC on, but look how sunny it was today.

I wrote about the gecko that I found on the window last night, and s/he is back again: s/he wasn't here in the morning, but looks like s/he came back tonight. On top of that, her/his tail has grown longer. Holly gecko.

This folk was here in the morning, too. Fourteen hours have passed, and s/he is still here exactly in the same position, in the same pose.

One of the things I've never experienced in my Okinawan life. Running into a Habu snake. Hopefully I'll never do so.

I take photos of my lunch almost everyday.
Ms. M, one of my colleagues asked me:
"What are you taking those pics for, anyway?"
"Hmmm, I'm going to put them on my blog."
"Oh, yeah? But I've never seen any."
"....."
Here it is!

This sushi place sells sushi for 300 yen (which is quite reasonable; it depends on what fish of sushi it is, though). They did grab my heart.

Some one brought over two boxes of pizza (dunno exactly why). These pizzas seem to be from a base, and they are just huge! I thought I would eat a piece or two after work, but I forgot. When I got to my office next day, they were all gone. Darn it!

A friend of mine asked me if I wanted to come to see a basket ball game of Ryukyu Golden Kings with him, since he had an extra ticket but found no one who can come on that day. I was a bit hesitant in the beginning since I'm not an athlete myself or great basketball fan, but decided to go after all otherwise he would waste the extra ticket. Actually it turned out that basketball is quite nice and exciting. It would be nice if I can go to see another game someday in the near future.

Nabe Party

Like you can't miss beer in summer, you can never miss Nabe (meat and vegitables boiled and served in pan/pot) in winter. This one made by Y was terrific especially with Yebisu beer! Thanks, Y!

I was totally surprised when I heard the phrase for the first time, but I admit this IS easy to use.
